Michela Matteoli


Michela Matteoli is Professor of Pharmacology at the Dept. of Medical Biotechnology and Traslational Medicine, University of Milano, Head of the “Pharmacology and Brain Pathology” Lab and Director of the Neuroscience Program at Humanitas, Clinical and Research Center. M. Matteoli received her PhD from the University of Pisa in 1989. From 1989 to 1991 she has been postdoctoral fellow at the Yale University School of Medicine and Visiting Scientist at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Department of Neuroscience. In 1992 she established her laboratory at the CNR-Center of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology;  in 2002 she became Associate Professor and in 2011 Full Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Milano.
M. Matteoli is currently Member of the Academia Europaea, Member of the international scientific advisory board of the Paris School of Neuroscience and is in the Board of Directors of the Center of Excellence for Neurodegenerative Diseases, University of Milano. She is member of national and international Societies in the field of Pharmacology and Neuroscience. M. Matteoli has been Partner in several European Projects and has been Coordinator of international research networks, including Human Frontier Science Program. She holds a significant reviewer activity for international funding agencies, including NSF, HFSP, European Research Council, and scientific journals, including Science, Nature, PNAS, EMBO Journal, Neuron.  M. Matteoli has authored about 110 research papers and scientific reviews with an average Impact Factor of around 7 and several book chapters. Her H index is 40. Her area of research is concerned with the study of the mechanisms underlying synapse function in health and in neurological and psychiatric diseases.
