Paljin Tulku Rinpoce
Speaker - Science and Religions - September 21st

Paljin Tulku Rinpoce

The Venerable Paljin Tulku Rinpoce (formerly Arnaldo Graglia) is a Buddhist monk who follows the Mahayana and Tibetan Vajrayana traditions. He was born in Italy in 1941, and has practiced Buddhism for over 30 years.

He is founder and spiritual guide of the Mandala Tibetan Studies Centre (Centro Studi Tibetani Mandala) of Milan, which has affiliated centres in Italy and other countries, and has close ties with the monasteries of Lamayuru and of Atitse in Ladakh. It was in the region of Ladakh, in the foothills of the Himalayas, that Arnaldo Graglia was recognised in 1995 as the reincarnation of Lama Je Paljin, a lama ("superior one") who lived in Ladakh about 500 years previously, and who was renown for spreading Buddhist teaching and for his abilities as a yogi, so that he came to be called Drubwang (meditator). Lama Je Paljin spent much of his time in the areas close to Lamayuru and Atitse.

The Venerable Paljin Tulku Rinpoce today sits with the masters of the Lamayuru monastery and leads the Atitse monastery, which will soon become and international mediation centre. He also founded, the Lamayuru Institute of Buddhist Studies in 1998, an international association that holds and promotes courses on the rites and philosophy of Tibetan Buddhism.

Indefatigable promoter of Buddhism in Western countries, the Venerable Paljin Tulku Rinpoce holds courses and seminars in Italy and other countries, promotes humanitarian initiatives in Ladakh, other parts of India, Nepal, Ethiopia, Peru and Sri Lanka, founded and directs the Mandala Samten Ling Monastery of Graglia Santuario, Biella, Italy – a place of study and retreat – and is an active believer in dialogue between the different religions. He is also spiritual guide at the De Ua Ling Centre of Merano, Italy, the Tharpa Ling Center of Verona, and the Yoga Perrot Centre of Marseilles, France. He also teaches at Drikung Kagyud Ratna Shri Centre in Paris.
