Scarascia Mugnozza is a distinguished Italian plant geneticist
and world leader in international cooperation aimed at arresting
gene erosion and in harnessing plant genetic resources for
sustainable food security and environmental sustainability.
He has spent his career making significant contributions in
the field of agrobiodiversity, plant breeding and genetic
engineering, applied mutagenesis. Much of his time has been
dedicated to agricultural research in developing countries.
With his research group he has released new durum wheat and
sunflower cultivars.
In conclusion, his main interest, during all his research
career is: biodiversity, genetic variability, genetic resources
(their research, evaluation and utilisation), the improvement
of food crops.
