After a period of training in research funded
by a CNR grant (section Logic and Mathematics), GIULIO GIORELLO
(Milano 1945) took up teaching positions in the Faculty of
Engineering of the University of Pavia, in the faculty of
“Philosophy and Humanities” of the University
of Milan and in the Science Faculty of the University of Catania.
After being appointed full professor of Foundations of Mathematics
in the University of Catania, he has been since the academic
year 1978-79 full professor of Philosophy of Science in the
University of Milan. He is member of the editorial board of
several journals, such as Rivista di Storia della Scienza,
Prometeo, Nuova Civiltà delle Macchine. On 29 September
2000 the Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi awarded him
the title of "Benemerito della scienza e della cultura".
Since 2002 he has been President of Società Italiana
di Logica e Filosofia delle Scienze. He has published several
books, including (with S. Morini), Parabole e catastrofi.
